20th century design and vintage are hot topics in both the antiques and interiors worlds right now. Mixing and matching and creating a home that reflects you and your life are themes that are becoming ever more popular and meaningful. But how do you get it right and how do you get involved, learn and buy best? Maybe you’re not sure how to get started or are put off, despite loving the look?

Alfie’s Antiques Market, London

Taking in London’s legendary Alfie’s Antiques Market and numerous dealers on neighbouring Church St, I will be your personal, independent expert guide, giving you an informal but highly informative introduction to the most popular and desirable styles from across the globe, from Art Deco to Midcentury Modern.

After a chat over coffee or tea, we’ll talk about important design movements, key makers, and designers, together with tips on how to identify quality pieces. As well as covering how best to buy from a dealer, we’ll handle the actual objects, talk to dealers, uncover what’s hot and what’s not, and pick up top tips and secrets of the trade along the way.

I’d emphasise that this needn’t be a shopping trip – there’s no obligation to buy. Just to enjoy, ask questions, meet the dealers, learn, and get an invaluable insight into the stories behind these beautiful objects, and how the antiques and vintage business works. But, from personal experience, I’d challenge you not to come away without at least one beautiful object of wonder for your home!

Suitable for anyone from experienced collector to total newcomer, no prior knowledge is needed, but it’d be great if you could indicate which areas, periods or objects you want to learn about, or that fire your passion.

Or, Create Your Own Bespoke Tour…

If you have specific interests or a keen curiosity about auctions, antiques fairs or a particular subject area, why not ask me about creating your own bespoke experience and tour – tailored just for you? I also regularly attend antiques and design fairs in London and across the UK, so may be able to join you at one you’re already planning to attend.

   •  Experience England’s top art and antiques fairs, meet the dealers, pick up tips and learn how to deal with (or like!) a dealer
   •  Attend a London auction, and pick up invaluable tips about how to view, bid and buy wisely
   •  View, handle and learn about some of London’s best antiques with the capital’s top dealers

Although bespoke tours work best with one person or a couple, groups of up to 6 are welcome.
(I’m sorry, but these experiences and locations are not at all suitable for children, or for teenagers who are not into it!)
