We all know that feeling, that frisson of excitement as you enter an antiques shop that you haven’t been in before. What will I find? Will I come out empty-handed, or is there treasure within? The thrill of the hunt!
Walking along a London street last weekend, I popped into an antiques shop that I had never noticed before. I was confronted with the usual array of miscellaneous pretty Victorian plates, kitschy animal figurines, cut glass, bottles, advertising, lighting, and framed pictures stacked against tables. Not much for me, sadly.
But look closely. Yes, there it is, on a shelf along the back of the side wall. An icon of of its type and time…
