A ‘Stonehenge’ watercolour, by Harold Herbert Holden (RWS, ARCA)
Description
A dramatic and atmospheric watercolour of the ancient monument under an abstracted sky, with two people passing through it. Probably painted by Holden in the 1920s or 30s.
Birmingham born artist Herbert Harold Holden (1885-1977) was Principal of the Leeds School of Art, and the Birmingham School of Art. He was also President of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists from 1954-55, a member of the Royal Watercolour Society, and an Associate of the Royal College of Art.
Condition
Dirty and possibly faded, but very decorative. Although this 'patina' adds drama, its looks may benefit from a clean. That's up to you! The paper is stuck down onto a card board. Unmounted and unframed so you can take the decision.
Board: 39.8cm wide, 29.3cm high.
